SUBJECT : 386 Write Through Feature
DATE : 6/6/90
FYI # : 060690km6
OS VERSION : 386 v3.0
REVISION :
SHELL VERSION :
QUESTION : While attending the 1990 Novell Developer's conference,
I heard about a new feature that will be included in version 3.10 of NetWare
386. It is called the "write through" or commit file. Can you tell me more?
ANSWER : The write through feature is an extended file open
request the means that any writes that occur to that file MUST be written
immediatly to disk. All cache buffers used for the write are flushed once
written to. While this feature offers some security for ensuring that writes
occur, it will slow down the system because none of the caching is used.
